Moving to Stuyvesant Square

A Little About Stuyvesant Square

Stuyvesant Square is situated in Manhattan and has a unique blend of limited space, historic landmarks, and mixed uses that create a bustling New York City neighborhood. Near the beginning of the 20th century, Stuyvesant Square ranked as one of Manhattan’s most fashionable precincts. The streets are lined with a range of well-kept 19th century rowhouses, apartment buildings and walk-ups. Drawing in all kinds of people, this area is a nice blend of historic district and a lively commercial shopping area that surrounds the four-acre, stunning Stuyvesant Square Park.

Stuyvesant Park

In 1836 Peter Gerard Stuyvesant reserved four acres of the family farm and sold it for five dollars to the City of New York as a public park.  The park is located between 15th Street, 17th Street, Rutherford Place, and Nathan D. Perlman Place. Stuyvesant Square Park is completely accessible and is surrounded by a twisted iron fence.   Bordering the park are two of the neighborhood’s most distinctive buildings, the 1856 neo-Gothic St. George’s Episcopal Church and the Friends Meeting House. Surrounding the park is the rest of Stuyvesant Square which is a great place to live.
