You need to be a tourist in your own home for a little while to really get to know it, and taking yourself on some more unique excursions can make the process a lot more interesting.
Eat – a lot: There is something to be said about living in the most populous city in the United States, you’re spoiled when it comes to food options. Nowhere else in the country will you find so many quality options for food and drink. To start out, New York is known for having amazing brunch options, so take some time off from unpacking your boxes post-move to enjoy brunch at the nearest diner. Who knows, you may become a regular. In addition to a classic NYC brunch, be sure to grab some produce from the stands you might see on the sidewalk during your everyday commute. With ever-rising grocery prices in NYC, the fresh, cheap, and delicious fruit is a welcome sight. Finally, be sure to check out all the different cultures of food that you can when you move to the city. With Ellis Island being the arrival point for many immigrants here in the US, you can find a better melting pot of authentic food options in NYC than anywhere else.
See a Show: Going to a Broadway show is unlike anything that you’ll ever experience. The production, performers on the biggest stage. Grab a friend (or make a new one) and go see your favorite show. If you are more interested in seeing one of the big name shows like Hamilton you can save some money by entering the ticket lottery. Additionally, tickets to The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, and Late Night are free. It’s a great way to have some fun on a budget in a way that most don’t take advantage of.
