The Unpacking Kit Makes Moving Easier
As professional movers, we can tell which families have moved quite a few times before and which ones are changing addresses for the very first time. One of the clues: experienced movers have unpacking kits assembled, clearly labeled and ready to be moved when we get there.
An unpacking kit contains all of the cleaning essentials you’ll want to have readily accessible when you’re getting settled into your new place. Having one tote filled with the supplies you need eliminates the need to look through multiple boxes or scour your new neighborhood looking for a store where you can buy everything.
Here’s what you need to create your Unpacking Kit:
A Clear Plastic Tote
Choose a tote that’s sturdy enough for a ride in a moving truck. You want it to be large enough to contain all of your cleaning supplies. Clear totes make it easy to see what’s inside – great news when you’re trying to find one tote among many, many cardboard boxes!
Box Cutter and Band-aids
The box cutter is to open moving boxes that have been securely closed with tape. The band-aids are for any minor box cutter mishaps. Don’t let little children or the chronically unlucky use the box cutter.
Trash Bags, Paper Towels, All Purpose Spray, Cleaning Wipes
It’s a good idea to wipe down cabinet shelves, countertops, and other surfaces before putting your possessions away. Appliances, stoves, and sinks may need special attention.
Toilet Paper
We’re not going to explain why you might need toilet paper. Just trust us on this one.
Hand Sanitizer, Soap, Shampoo & Conditioner, Shower Curtain Liner
You’re going to want to get cleaned up after unpacking. If your tote is large enough, you may want to include some towels. If not, make sure your towel boxes are labeled clearly.
Paper Plates, Napkins, Plastic Silverware, Paper Cups & Bowls
Having disposable dishware makes feeding the family a lot easier, especially if you haven’t unpacked the kitchen yet.
Pain Relief & Headache Medications
In a perfect world, no one would get a sore back or a splitting headache from moving. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world. It’s better to be prepared. Make sure all medications are kept safely away from small children!
