Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens Launches 2008 Christmas Toy DriveBrooklyn, NY (Brooklyn Eagle) November 30, 2008 The Christmas Toy Drive provides toys and gift cards for children and teens in need. Last year CCBQ collected and distributed more than 2,000 gifts. This year, during an extremely difficult economic crisis, Catholic Charities is facing an unprecedented number of requests for toys. In an effort to meet the ever-growing demand for gifts for the young and impoverished, the Agency is now collecting toys at 19 bank locations, as well as at its four Community Centers. "Flushing Savings Bank locations and select Ridgewood Savings Bank locations throughout Brooklyn and Queens have been generously provided to serve as toy collection centers in late November through early December," said Jack Boyle, CCBQ's director of development and communications. In addition, Shleppers Moving & Storage has generously volunteered to collect the toys from the bank locations and transport them back to Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens. Toys and gift cards are also being collected through the Catholic Youth Organization's Program (CYO), local parishes and a CCBQ staff donation campaign. Robert Siebel, CEO of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, lauded the collaborative efforts of the banks and Shleppers Moving and Storage, "whose generosity of heart and genuine sense of what the season is all about are bringing joy to countless children." "I am delighted that our bank is supporting this important community effort benefiting children and families in need," said Ridgewood Savings Bank, Bay Ridge Branch Manager Chris Smith. "The holiday season is anticipated with great enthusiasm by people of all ages, this year needs to be joyous and cheerful, CCBQ will be key to making it a reality for many." New, unwrapped gifts can be donated at Catholic Charities four Community Centers as well, which are located at 191 Joralemon St. in Brooklyn Heights, 720 East Eighth St. in Park Slope, 23-40 Astoria Boulevard in Astoria, and 90-39 189th Street in Hollis, Queens.
